The Barbell sumo squat is an incredible compound exercise for developing lower body power, but it requires sharp focus to avoid common technical mistakes. When lifting with a weighted barbell, many people accidentally let their knees cave inward during the descent or round their lower back trying to reach excessive depth. By paying close attention to keeping your chest high, maintaining proper alignment, and sitting down with control, you ensure that the load directly targets your glutes and quadriceps. Avoiding these frequent errors not only shields your hips and knees from unnecessary strain, but it also maximizes muscle recruitment, allowing you to progress safely, build impressive strength, and feel completely in control under the bar.
1. Place a bar on the back of your shoulders with your feet very wide apart. 2. Keep your back and head upright with your toes slightly pointing outwards. 3. Inhale and descend by bending your knees until your thighs are parallel to the floor. 4. Exhale and return to the starting position, maintaining the balance of the bar.

- Keep your chest elevated during the entire movement to prevent your back from rounding. - Ensure your knees follow the direction of your toes when descending. - Focus on pushing the floor with your heels to correctly activate your glutes and thighs.
